#9 Cortland Edges Ithaca, 18-16

Nick Calandrino won his first career bout at heavyweight.
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College wrestling team (7-8) lost 18-16 to ninth-ranked Cortland Tuesday .

A major decision by fifth-ranked Robert Stubbs (MacArthur/Levittown) at 184 pounds in the final bout of the evening was not enough for the Bombers, who lost four bouts in a row from 125 to 149, capped by a fall for Cortland’s Jason Chase that proved to be the difference.
At 174 pounds, third-ranked Matthias Keib (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton) lost his first dual match of the year to fourth-ranked Stef Sair in a rematch of the state tournament’s third-place bout (when Keib beat then-top-ranked Sair). Nick Calandrino (Emerson/Emerson, N.J.) was victorious in his first career bout at heavyweight, while Tyler Daffinee (Binghamton/Binghamton) won his first 197-pound bout of the season.

Stubbs' major decision was his 98th career victory; only 11 Bombers have ever won 100 bouts. Stubbs is Ithaca’s winningest active wrestler.

The match concluded Ithaca’s regular season; the Bombers travel to Cortland on February 18 for the ECWC Championships, beginning at 10 a.m.
